Boat ownership vs Daily membership

What it really costs to keep a Buccaneer 635 HT in Auckland, and what you pay with Daily instead.

What owning one costs

A new Buccaneer 635 HT spec'd to the Daily standard costs about $165,000. Then the bills start. This is what it costs each year to own one and keep it in the water in Auckland, using real figures from our own fleet.

Marina berth ($1,255 a month)

$15,060

Insurance (0.9% of $165,000)

$1,485

Antifouling ($2,500 every 2 years)

$1,250

Servicing and maintenance

$6,000

Depreciation

$8,000

Cost of capital (5% of $165,000)

$8,250

Total cost per year

$40,045

That is about $3,337 a month. Fuel is extra whether you own or join.

What Daily costs instead

Week Day: $470 a month

$5,640 a year

Any Day: $690 a month

$8,280 a year

Multi Day: $840 a month

$10,080 a year

Corporate (up to 3 skippers): $970 a month

$11,640 a year

With no $165,000 outlay, no maintenance and nothing to sell when you are done, having a Daily boat is a fantastic way to get on the water. Minimum term is 12 months, then month to month.

A small fleet, on purpose

We run five high-quality, well-maintained Buccaneers, not twenty boats on a tight schedule. We limit how many members share each boat so you can get out on the water when you want to, and every boat is kept to the standard you would keep your own.
